Reflexive Pronouns e Pronomes Recíprocos em Inglês

Pronomes Recíprocos (Reciprocal Pronouns)

Além dos Pronomes Reflexivos (Reflexive Pronouns), existe um outro grupo chamado Pronomes Recíprocos (Reciprocal Pronouns).

Os principais são:

• each other
• one another 

Como Usar os Pronomes Recíprocos em Inglês

Eles são usados quando duas ou mais pessoas fazem a mesma ação uma com a outra.

Em português, geralmente significam:

• um ao outro
• uma à outra
• uns aos outros
• entre si
• se / nos (em alguns contextos)

Qual é a diferença entre Reflexivos e Recíprocos?

A diferença principal é simples:

✅ Reflexivos → a ação volta para a própria pessoa.
(alguém faz algo para si mesmo)

✅ Recíprocos → a ação acontece entre duas ou mais pessoas.
(um faz algo ao outro)

Observe:

Reflexivo:

Julia and I looked at ourselves in the mirror.

(Julia e eu olhamos para nós mesmas no espelho.)

→ Aqui, cada pessoa olha para si mesma.

Recíproco:

Julia and I looked at each other and started to laugh.

(Julia e eu olhamos uma para a outra / nos olhamos e começamos a rir.)

→ Aqui, Julia olha para mim e eu olho para Julia.

Mais exemplos

Reflexivo:

Make sure you and Julia don't hurt yourselves!

(Tomem cuidado para que você e Julia não se machuquem!)

→ Vocês podem machucar a si mesmos.

Recíproco:

Our mother thinks that we should be more careful with each other.

(Nossa mãe acha que deveríamos ser mais cuidadosos uns com os outros.)

→ Devemos cuidar um do outro.

Reflexivo:

Julia and I enjoyed ourselves during the party.

(Julia e eu nos divertimos durante a festa.)

→ Nós mesmos tivemos diversão / aproveitamos a festa.

Recíproco:

Julia and I don't see each other every day.

(Julia e eu não nos vemos todos os dias.)

→ Eu não vejo Julia todos os dias, e Julia não me vê todos os dias.

Each other × One another

Na prática, each other e one another têm praticamente o mesmo significado.

Tradicionalmente:

• each other → usado para duas pessoas
• one another → usado para três ou mais pessoas

Mas no inglês moderno, essa diferença não é rígida. Muitas vezes os dois podem ser usados da mesma forma.

Exemplos:

Julia and I help each other.

(Julia e eu ajudamos uma à outra.)

The students respect one another.

(Os alunos se respeitam / respeitam uns aos outros.)

Como Usar os Pronomes Reflexivos em Inglês

Reflexive Pronouns

Os Pronomes Reflexivos (Reflexive Pronouns) são usados para indicar que a ação reflexiva recai sobre o próprio sujeito.

Nesse caso, o pronome vem logo após o verbo e concorda com o sujeito.

Os Pronomes Reflexivos se caracterizam pelas terminações self (no singular) 

e selves (no plural).

Para cada Pronome Sujeito existe um Pronome Reflexivo:

I	Myself (a mim mesmo, me)
You	Yourself (a você mesmo, te, se)
He	Himself (a ele mesmo, a si, se)
She	Herself (a ela mesma, a si, se)
It	Itself (a si mesmo, se)
We	Ourselves (a nós mesmos, nos)
You	Yourselves (a vocês mesmos, se)
They	Themselves (a eles mesmos, se)

USOS:

1) Função Reflexiva:

Quando o sujeito faz e sofre a ação.

Exemplo:
Dave cut himself with a knife. 

(Dave cortou-se com uma faca.)

- Quem cortou? Dave

- O que foi cortado? Dave

Nesse exemplo, a ação do verbo recai sobre o próprio sujeito que a praticou.

2) Com o sentido de Sozinho:

É precedido pela preposição BY.

Exemplo:

He prefers to be by himself.

(Ele prefere ficar sozinho.)

I like to cook by myself. 

(Eu gosto de cozinhar sozinha.)

3) Para dar Ênfase:

É usado para dar ênfase à pessoa que pratica a ação.
Exemplo:
John wrote the e-mail himself. 

(O próprio John escreveu o e-mail.)

I will do my homework myself.

(Eu própria/mesma farei minha lição de casa.)
