Diferença entre Should e Ought to + Exercícios e Gabarito

Como Usar Should e Ought to 

Should é um verbo modal.

Ought To é um verbo semi-modal, ou seja, é seguido de infinitivo com TO.

Tanto Should quanto Ought To são iguais para todos os sujeitos.

Exemplo com o pronome you (você) e o verbo to go (ir)

Forma Afirmativa

You should go

You ought to go

Forma Negativa

You should not go ou you shouldn’t go

You ought not to go ou you oughtn’t to go

Forma Interrogativa

Should you go?

Ought you to go?

Obs: Ought To existe nas formas negativa e interrogativa, porém raramente é usado atualmente.

Tanto Should quanto Ought To são usados para expressar conselho, sugestão, 

obrigação ou dever. 

Should e Ought To possuem basicamente o mesmo sentido.

Exemplos:

We should go home now. 

We ought to go home now. 

(Nós devemos ir para casa agora.)

Diferença de Uso entre Should e Ought to

Should é usado quando queremos expressar nossa opinião subjetiva. Ou seja é 

usado para dizer o que eu acho melhor para você.

Exemplos:

You should call your mother more often.

(Você deve ligar para sua mãe com mais frequência.)

He should apologize for that. 

(Ele deveria se desculpar por isso.)

Ought To é usado quando queremos expressar uma verdade objetiva. Ou seja, o que é necessário e não pode ser evitado. É por isso que ought to geralmente é usado para leis, deveres e regulamentos.

Exemplos:

He ought to follow the school’s policy, or he will get expelled.

(Ele deve seguir a política da escola ou será expulso.)

 

According to this road sign, they ought to stop here. 
(De acordo com este sinal de trânsito, eles devem parar por aqui.)
